The 4-page spread that I liked is Driving Her Home in the Fall 2012 edition. I like the big photo on the second page which I think would pair well with a vertical portrait of an important person in my story. The horizontal photo across the top on the first page is a nice touch too. I would probably move the bottom photo to the third page so the opening text isn’t boxed in. I also think that photo would look nice at a larger size. The photos down the middle column create a nice balanced presentation on the first page of the story. The third and fourth pages are nice, I like that big photo at the top. I think the large quote box should have a photo in its place, probably replaced with the photo I mentioned at the bottom of page one of the story. The story goes on to a fifth page with another full-page vertical shot with story text overlayed on top of it which is a nice way to get the full photo and story on one page. I think it works because the core visuals of the photo aren’t taken away by the text.
Overall I like this layout a lot and how it allows for larger photos alongside a good amount of text.
