The expert I’m looking for for my story would be someone knowledgeable about the 245-year history of the church and the surrounding area. The first place I contacted is the LA City Historical Society. This society was founded in 1976 by historians who teach, preserve and celebrate the history of Los Angeles.
My next source would be the book “Religion in Los Angeles” edited by Richard Flory and Diane Winston. It’s an anthology book about the role of religion in Los Angeles. Flory is a sociologist and executive director of the Center for Religion and Civic Culture and Winston is a journalism professor at USC.
A good third source would be William David Estrada, author of “The Los Angeles Plaza”. Estrada worked as a historian and curator of El Pueblo Historical Monument. He holds a Ph.D in History from the University of University of California, Los Angeles.
